I can really feel that Spring is here as flowers are starting to grow. Birds are chirping, even at 4.30am in the morning! Spring also means work in the garden and I am not really looking foward to all those weeds-plucking.

Edit : I think I must be dreaming while writing my blog yesterday. It was Almond Chocolate Cake that is supposed to be here. I even made a small cake stand to go with it. In fact, I made 6 mini cake stands to go with all the 6 small cakes.

I made this Walnut Cream Roll and I simply love it. I am thinking of making another one but in pink.

I've always love the Danish Othello Kage. While walking past the bakery last week, I saw one. I came home and decided to make one myself . This one is sewed but I am going to bake the real one soon, just have to exclude the marzipan away as I hate them.

All of a sudden, I just feel like buying a kit to stitch. I am still working on my HAED Angel of Spring but thought of putting it away for a while. I have 2 Eva Rosenstand kits in mind but still deciding which one to buy first. I hope I won't take too long to decide.

Here is another batch of felt cakes I made during the last 2 weeks. I remade a couple of them as I wasn't satisfied with the first results.
First time making a whole felt cake. I have to practise with the icing though.
I just bought this Wilton Wonder Mold. For the past few weeks, DD had been watching on Youtube on some doll cakes making using this mold. I can bake but I am not a professional cake decorator. I know there are a lot of accessories (different type of tips to be used on the dress) involved and they look quite intimidating. DH told me that he will help out with the decorations and told me to go ahead and buy the kit. DH came with an idea to save some work but not money. He suggested buying a barbie doll dress, cut it to the waist length and put it over this doll pick. In this way, we don't have to decorate top body with icing, marzipan, etc. What do you think? We will try making a Barbie doll cake this Sunday together with DD. If you want to look at the most beautiful Barbie doll cakes, go here. That is the site which DD and I frequent a lot and try to look for The Island Princess cake, that one is stunning!

I had been reading quite a lot during the evenings too. Recently I am into reading about child abuse books. I finished Sold by Tess Stevens last week and started Shy Keenan Broken. They are not lying when it is written 'The Most shocking story of abuse ever told' on the cover of Broken. The abuse that this young girl Shy had gone through since she was 4 was horrifying!!! Each time I finished a page and had to turn to a new one, I kept on telling myself 'please, let the abuse stops at the next page.'

Started a new page 5 days ago that is filled with confetti stitches. Taking one stitch at a time, else I will go crazy! Most of the confetti stitches are on the bouqet of flowers and I am actually looking forward to some colours.

Made some felt cakes and chocolates as well.

This picture was taken last week. Yes, it is still snowing but for a few days, we had sunshine too. Just when the snow is melting, we had 2 days of snow again. We simply can't be bothered to shovel the snow anymore. Seems like there are quite a lot of activities going on in our garden. We have footprints of cats and maybe a hare too.

We had a great Fastelavn party yesterday with our friends and their girls. It is a tradition that these 2 families will come over to our house for this party each year (a day before the real Fastelavn). We have 2 Pippi Longstockings, 2 Cinderellas and 1 witch this year. I guess we all forgot that children are growing. It only took them a few strikes and the barrel was smashed! We should had made it more difficult by putting strong tapes around the barrel. The Queen of Cats happened to be the same girl again. She was the first one to smash it opened last year too.
The snow didn't stop them from coming. One of the families made some fastelavn boller for coffee while I made buns for lunch and a cake for coffee. Already planning for the next party. We just love throwing children parties in our house. It might be during Easter but DH is planning for an Easter trip to Bavaria in Germany to visit his relatives. It had been a while since we had been there. (what is wrong with my spacing? Can't get them to have a spacing inbetween!)
I just hate it when Ebay sellers put their auctions ending during weekend and hate it even more when it is during coffeetime. When we have a party, it is usually for lunch and coffee or coffee and dinner. My friends always wonder why I am standing in the computer each time they are here. I had to bid on 4 books yesterday, thank god I won them all.

Finished these 4 felt icecream cups 2 days ago. Just in time for the 4 girls who were invited to our Fastelavn party. Thank you so much to Annette for the introduction of Photoscape. It is really fun to play around with this program.

Stash came in my mailbox this week - Doodlebug Crushed Velvet Flock which I bought from Glitterpot in UK. They will be used on some felt cakes which look like they have some sprinkled icing powder on top.

I have a new follower on my blog today. Portugese living in France. Surprise, Surprise. When I went to check her 2 blogs out, she has charts uploaded on her blogs. At first I thought they could be freebies but when I saw Permin, Tatty Ted, Disney and some others, I know they are definitely not freebies!!! Please do not follow me on my blog if you have charts uploaded on your blog/s. I will definitely introduce you to the original designers and you will probably follow them to the court.

3 more rows and I am finished with this page. After that, I will proceed to stitch the rest of her face. I am a big fan of B&W but when I strarted to stitch that teeny weeny bit of colours on her chest, I was so happy to finally see some colours beside B&W.

A package arrived from Japan again this morning. Who else could it be from? Michiko, of course! She helped me to buy 2 more felt books again. I am really looking forward to make this wedding cake. A huge thank you to Michiko again. I really feel very bad as Michiko wasn't feeling well last week but still she went to the post office to get my books posted out. That same evening, she had a high fever. Thank god, she recovers quite fast from the high fever.

This is another book which Michiko bought for me. A friend of mine just bought a huge Sylvanian House for her 2 daughters for Christmas and I thought it will be great to make some accessories to add into their Sylvanian families. I used to be a Sylvanian families collector too and I had them packed in a box and put it in the basement. I think I only took it out once to let my DD played with it but I packed them quickly away again. The accessories are so small and I really don't want them to be lost somewhere among her toys.

This is 1st of the 4th which I am making for the girls this Saturday. Sorry about the quality of the pictures. I need to buy a new card for my camera as it is broken. So, I am currently using my phone to take pictures and it is not easy to take brighter pictures sometimes. It is becoming a tradition that these 2 families are coming over to our house for the Danish Fastelavn every year. DD is looking so much forward to it. I am making 4 of these for her 4 friends that day and I hope I can finish them before Saturday. Well, if someone helps me to do the housework, I might even make 10 of them within this short period ;0)

This is the dress which DD decides for this year's Fastelavn. She will celebrate it on Friday in the kindergarten and then again on Saturday. Most probably she might want to go to neighbours on Sunday too as the actual day is on Sunday. I wonder when will she finally decides to be Tinkerbell. I really love that costume so much but for the past 4 years, she always say no when I asked her what she thinks of Tinkerbell.

I received my fabrics from Sew Creative last week. They are mostly Lecien fabrics and I managed to have 1/2m of this Timeless Treasures Ballet Slippers. Sew Creative didn't put this on their site but she told me she has it when I asked her for this and the music notes. Too bad, she doesn't has the music notes.

We had a snow storm last Tuesday and an unexpected one on Wednesday. We simply don't have any place for more snow. Our snow shovel broke and all shovels are sold out everywhere. Salt are running low everywhere too.

This place is just further down our house. I went out to the local supermarket to stock up some milk and flour on Monday (a day before the storm). I thought the scenary is really lovely. The middle white area is actually the lake and it was covered with snow or ice.

Ugly side of the snow.

BOOKS

My Maki Sæki Le Cartonnage arrived in my mailbox this morning. I was so excited as I knew the book from Michiko is here. If you go to Michiko's blog, take a look at her gorgeous works.
It is like a dream coming true to owe this book as I didn't know where to buy this book anywhere in the world, except for Amazon Japan. Luckily, Michiko was so kind enough to help by purchasing it and sending it to me in Denmark. Thank you so much Michiko not only for this but also for helping me with some Japanese translation for a felt sweet book I have. She gave me 2 recipes for Chawa Mushi and Sushi Rice as she knows I love them a lot. There are so many wonderful projects you can do from this book. It is simply beautiful! I have to sit down and 'study' the book, just like what I did with the last Japanese book.

I've been a great fan of Mia Dolan ever since I watched Haunted Homes on Zone Reality. I won these 2 books from a UK Ebay seller last week. I regretted not buying her Mia's World and I think it went off without any bidders. I sent her a mail, asking her whether she could list it again and put a Buy It Now price. Not sure whether she will do it but she is more than happy to relist the book for her brother if I really want it. I finished The Gift and it is really a great book, talking about Mia's earlier life. She is an extremely strong and determined lady. I am 1/4 done with Haunted Homes. Too bad my husband doesn't believe in ghosts. He told me why would people want to spend money hiring a medium when their lights are going on and off for no reason. He would had used the money to hire a good electrician instead.

I thought snowy days are over when we had a few days of sunshine and snow was melting. Seems like it is still not over as we had really heavy snow for the last 2 days.

29 Jan 2010

29 Jan 2010

See what greeted me this morning when I opened the main door. Thank god we have a door to stop all these unwanted visitors. Since we had so much snow everywhere in the garden, we built a small slope, so that DD can slide down from it. I guess she thinks it is more fun to throw herself into the snow rather sliding down.

Thank you for your lovely compliments for my last post, especially on my felt sweets. My cousin sent me a mail after seeing them on my blog and asked me for the recipe. I was confused at first as I don't remember this cousin of mine is so much into craft works. I think she mistaken them as real sweets!

She got a shoulder and more curls appearing. Started on a new page and it is rather easy but I am certainly not looking forward to the next page as there are so many confetti stitches. Well, I am quite good at biting my tongue and get over things :0)

My rhinestones finally arrived after so long. Lizzie from Rhinestonesonline is an extremely nice lady. She immediately sent me a replacement package when I told her I haven't got my package after 3 weeks of waiting? The very next day, I received the first package and 2 days later, I received the replacement package. I sent the 2nd one back to her yesterday and I am already writing another list of rhinestones and pearls which I need from her. I still have 1 more package from another seller. It was sent on the 4 Jan but I still haven't received it. That package contains cabochons miniatures and crochet trims.
These felt sweets are really fun and fast to make too, though it is a nightmare to tie the rounded chocolates together. I broke so many threads while tightening them. The brown one in the middle is a try-out which I put some 'chocolate sauce' on it. I wanted to buy those deco chocolate sauce which I saw on Etsy but decided to try out with a 3D liner fabric paint instead. I think they look as good as those deco chocolate sauce. I just have to practise controlling the flow of the paint.

I think making the macarons is really fun and easy too. I made 6 of them and is starting to feel comfortable making the 'whipped cream' inbetween the macrons. They will make lovely gifts for our friends' children who are mostly girls.

All the felt sweets made are from this book. It is an extremely good book for a beginner like me. I bought it over Ebay from a Japanese seller who is really helpful. She recommended me which books I should take since I am a beginner. Still, as a beginner, I have to look through the book a lot of times, trying to figure out the methods of making. Since it is in Japanese, I have to flip the book forth and back, trying to spot the same 'word' for certain accessories, descriptions and the parts to sew. If I am lucky, certain words that look like Mandarin, is easier for me but if it is just plain Japanese, I have to think so hard. I am sure by the time I am done with this book, I can read quite a lot of Japanese :0))
It is unbelievable that the snow is not stopping since before Christmas. I have no idea where to pile up the snow anymore. Today, for the first time, I shovelled the snow from the pathway outside house (it is usually my husband who is doing it). It is hard work and my arms and hands were trembling for a while. 20 mins after I cleared the pathway, it started to snow again! Waste of my time clearing the snow away from the pathway but if someone falls and breaks his/her neck at our area, we will be so dead! Even the birdbath is covered with snow.
This picture was taken in November when the snow started.

A very happy new year to all. I hope everyone received all their packages during this Christmas and New Year season. It was a relieve for me when I finally received my package from the artist Katerina Koukiotis yesterday. I won her Christmas Spirit artwork on her Ebay a week before Christmas. When I opened the package, Kat enclosed a huge print of Angel of Spring, as well as her Twilight bookmark. I was stunned and speechless. She mentioned that she put in a little gift when she sent out Christmas Spirit but this is a huge gift for me as I love this Angel of Spring artwork so much. Thank you very much for the gifts, Kat. I sent her a package too, around the same time she sent hers to me. On the very same day, just hours later, she received mine! It is a pity that the angel ornament was broken a bit but she said she can fix it.

I finally received my trim and felt last Tuesday from a UK Ebay seller who sent out my package on the 21 December. Very nice seller whom I often go to whenever I need some felt squares. I also received my 'old raspberries' ;0) The seller is from USA and she is such a nice and helpful lady. She charged me only $2 for postage for 4 packages of vintage berry beads! I told her to double check again as that is a bit too low for postage from USA to Denmark. She confirmed the price is right. Ivy*Garden is her ebay store if you want some lovely vintage beads and berries and great customer service. I think I have all the stuff ready to start my felt cakes but I am still missing my 9 packets of rhinestones. I sent 2 mails asking the seller to check with her post office regarding my package but I am not getting any replies from her. She was strongly recommended to me by another crafter. I know she sent my package out on the 21 December as well. Should I file for a Item Not Received dispute over Ebay or not. It is not her fault if the package got lost during the busy season but if I don't get the goods, I certainly want my money back. On the other hand, that means she has to dig out from her own pocket to pay me back, just because Royal Mail lost my package. Any opinions from my blog readers?

I submitted my finished Sleeping Beauty (which you see her on the right hand side of the blog) to HAED for the Reward Program. I asked for QS Linda Tso At First Sight with a background removal but this service is not available together with the Reward Program. So, I just took the whole QS chart.
I am the 2nd winner on the HAED BB for completing my 2009 Full Year Goal Challenge and won myself a FS chart. I have no idea which chart to pick and since this week's artist is Katerina, I thought maybe her Christmas Spirit and Home for the Holidays might get charted. I told the moderator that I really have nothing which I want right now and would like to wait a bit. I am starting to become fussy when it comes to charts now. I just don't want to get or buy something and stash it up. I have until mid February to get my FS chart but if I still can't find one, I hope they allow me to pass the prize to someone else who would like to have a HAED chart.
As I mentioned in my previous post that I am not so fond of having this man wanting to stay over at our house on New Year's eve with crates of beer, in fact he is a male relative. Thank god he didn't come as my DH told him that both DD and I are not feeling well. At first, he still insisted on coming as he bought all the stuff (I presume all the beer). Luckily, he was down with a flu and he changed his mind coming.
DD was down with Chicken Pox on New Year's eve. So, she stayed for another week at home after her kindergarten reopens. It will be a busy month for us. Within this month, she will get a day to a private clinic here for an operation to remove the cyst under her eye. She has to go for her routine yearly check up and being a 5-year-old child, she will get her last shot. That means she might be down with a fever for few days. A real challenging Year 2010 and I can also see myself doing something really different too, a bit scary but I am up for it :0))

Sunday, December 27, 2009

Just finished her 2nd eye yesterday morning. This time I didn't time myself how long I took to stitch her eye. All I know is that it took me less than 2 hours :0))

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. We certainly had a white Christmas this year as snow was already piling up few days before Christmas. It was really bad that we got warning not to go out unless necessary.

We celebrated Christmas at my in-laws in Germany and DD received a lot of gifts from us, her grandparents and her uncles and aunts. She received one of the 3 Musketeer barbies, a camera, clothings, another Go Go add-on, toys and toys again. She was so thrilled with her new barbie and before Christmas, she kept on asking us whether Santa will bring the Pink musketeer barbie to her. As for her camera, she had been going around taking pictures all the time and loading them up onto her computer.
Stop asking this question 'what do you wish for Christmas or birthday?' if you don't intend to buy what people wish for. Not that they can't find the items but some people just love to buy what they want others to wish for. DD actually didn't receive a few things she wished for but something else. I am so glad that we bought the things she wished for the most ourselves. As for us - we received money, DVD, perfume and I got a lot of baking utensils from my in-laws. I can't wait to try them out.

We will staying at home till end of the year, though we have to attend a Christmas dinner tomorrow. During this period, I've been baking a lot at home, mostly bread and cookies while DH and DD had been playing on the Wii for hours since the snow started (nice entertainment for such weather like this). Well, we have someone who wants to stay overnight at our place on New Year's eve and I am not very fond of it. The reason : This person is already starting to talk about bringing crates of beer over that day!!!! DH was a bit shocked as he will only drink a beer and me, no drinking at all. I only invited him to come by for dinner, since he said he will alone that day and he invited himself to stay over as well. The beer thing is starting to frighten me as I don't want any drunkards in the house. So now, we are trying find an excuse not to have him over. Anyone has a good suggestion?
Remember my last post about searching for this raspberry? I was laughing out loud when Annette said she will just call it an old raspberry. After some searching, I found out that they are called Vintage Raspberry Beads. There are a couple of sellers selling them on Ebay and Etsy but I had been buying some craft items from different sellers over the week and I really want to save on shipping fees for the last few items I really need to have. If you know of just 1 seller who is selling them, please let me know. The items are :
Vintage Raspberry Dark Pink and Light Pink (approx. 12 to 15mm)
Rococo Braid (max. 10mm)
Flatback teardrop pearls in various colours (approx. 4 to 6mm)
Katerina Koukiotis just finished a commissioned portrait of a baby boy - Precious Moments. It is a stunning portrait that took my breath away when I first it. This baby boy is none other than the youngest son of my good friend, Jackie from UK.
I don't think I will be updating my blog for the rest of the year. I wish everyone a Happy New Year!!

I made this felt cake stand yesterday. It took me a while before I got the courage to give it a go after buying the pattern from the designer (Sweetie Pie Bakery). I am not a big fan when it comes to tons of instructions. The pattern I bought has more written instructions than pictures to show the steps. Luckily I made a felt box few days ago and using that, I used my own instructions to make this cake stand and referring to this pattern instructions from time to time.

I received my Basic Felt Sweets book yesterday from a Japanese seller. I spent so much time looking through the book and thumbs up for this book. It is a great felt sweets book for beginners with step by step pictures showing you how to make the cakes/sweets. Though I got to say, not all sweets come with step by step instructions, you still have to use a bit of your imagination. Really love this craft book and there are so many others which I want to buy and try out. I've been cutting down on my cross-stitching since I started this felt crafts work. I am just not in the mood to do any other cross stitch works, except for my current HAED. Btw, Angel of Spring just got her 2nd eye ;0). Will post a picture once that page is done and it won't take long actually.
I need some help here. What do you call that 'raspberry' thing (between the kiwi and the strawberry). I am buying rhinestones now as this book requires quite a lot of them but I have no idea where to start my search from when I don't have a clue what that 'raspberry' thing is called. It is formed with some beads together but I am sure I can buy these as a whole.
